There are more than 8,800 species of bird worldwide and 10 per cent of these are found in Australia. Find out which birds are native to Australia and which ones have been introduced at the Birds activity station at the entrance to the Birds & Insects exhibition.

This activity station contains bird specimens that you can touch. Discover the variation in the size of bird eggs and compare the weight of a bird bone with that of a mammal - which one do you think would be lighter? You can look at different bird beaks and feet and find out how these characteristics suit each bird's lifestyle.

"It is the most widespread bird in Australia and I found that interesting and the visitors seem to enjoy thinking about that as well."
