Scientific Literacy - Consolidation
Together with the class, write a procedure outlining how the students made their plasticine rocks.
- Give the procedure a 'Title'.
- Write the heading 'Things you need' and brainstorm a list of materials used by the class.
- Write the heading 'What to do' and write the steps they followed in sequence.
- Type up the text and give them a copy. Ask the students to illustrate the procedure.
- Use the scaffold sheet included to help the students write their procedure.
- Encourage the student to conduct library research on 'How to grow an individual crystal'.
- Visit the Planet of Minerals exhibition and the Albert Chapman Mineral Collection at the Australian Museum and see some examples of crystals.
- Encourage each student to write the procedure involved in the formation of an individual crystal. Conduct the experiment itself for the practical component of the lesson.
