Funnel-web spiders like cool, humid places. Most live on the ground, building their burrows under rocks, rotting logs or leaf litter in bushland and gardens. The few tree dwelling species, living in holes and crevices in trunks and branches. Around Sydney, the Southern Tree Funnel-web lives in rough-barked trees like Banksia, Casuarina (she-oaks) and Melaleuca (paperbarks).
