Ian ‘Toongee’ Kennedy

Different tools are used to carve the designs on to the emu egg surface. Initially stone tools were used and in more recent times sharp metal tools like pocket-knives and shearing cutters have been adopted. The shearing cutter, like the example displayed here, is the essential egg-carving tool. Ian 'Toongee' Kennedy, like the other artist on display, has used the shearing cutter to produce the designs on his eggs.
