Using the Library

Using the LibraryAlthough the Australian Museum Research Library is open to the public, it is a reference library and does not lend to the public. Borrowing rights are restricted to employees of the Australian Museum.

Access to the Collections - Personal visit

Visitors to the Research Library are able to use the collections and a range of research facilities and services. Our Reference staff are happy to answer reference questions from the public. If you plan to visit the Research Library to carry out extensive research, it is advisable to give the Research Library staff advance notice of your visit and area of interest. Material requested may sometimes be unavailable for conservation or other reasons.

Access to the Collections - Remote access

The Research Library provides a letter, fax, telephone, and e-mail reference service. We hope that our Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) will soon be be available for searching on this website, however our holdings are on KINETICA which can be accessed through many local libraries (see your local library for details). Interlibrary loans and document delivery may be arranged through your local public or academic library, if they provide these services. Charges may apply.

Contact the Reference Librarian on (02) 9320 6152 or complete the reference enquiry form.

Please note that Research Library staff are available to assist but do not undertake research on an individual's behalf. If you are unable to visit the Research Library to do your own research, we can either do the research for you for a fee or provide you with a list of other individuals who undertake research on a commercial basis.
