Looking good for the gods

Keku was the daughter of a temple official and could afford a comfortable life, both in the real world and in the afterlife. She would have wanted to look her best for the gods so she may have taken many cosmetic items with her to her tomb. These included mirrors, combs, hairpins, containers and make-up. The most common cosmetic item used by ancient Egyptians was kohl, a type of eyeliner. As well as improving their appearance, kohl evidently protected a person's eyes from infections and glare from the sun.
