Welcome to Larval Fishes

This site is an online tool designed to assist in the identification of fish larvae from temperate Australia, in particular New South Wales. It provides new taxonomic descriptions of fish larvae and a searchable database of reference material for the early life history stages of temperate fish species.

The larval fish descriptions are designed to supplement the book, Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes: a laboratory guide for larval fish identification.

This site is designed for scientists and tertiary students who have some knowledge of larval fish identification. For enquiries and feedback on this site please contact Amanda Hay or Tom Trnski.
