Prior to the publication of this book, the larval stages of only a small number of temperate Australian fish species were described. These descriptions were dispersed in the literature, which meant they were difficult to locate and the quality of the information was variable. Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes published in 1998 brought together what was known about fish larvae in the region. This book provided descriptions of 124 species of marine and freshwater fishes in a user-friendly format; 93 of these species are described for the first time.
The Larvae of Temperate Australian Fishes is of use to systematists, ecologists and fishery biologists.
