snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Nodilittorina pyramidalis

Nodilittorina pyramidalis. Throughout the world, the upper intertidal region of rocky shores and mangrove swamps are home to a wide variety of littorinid snails, often called 'periwinkles'. Very few other animals have adapted to the harsh dry, hot conditions which occur in such places, often only wet once or twice a month during the highest of the high tides (15mm).
