snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Nassarius particeps

Nassarius particeps. Carnivorous snails usually have evolved a long tube (siphon) to suck water in over the gills and a sense organ (osphradium) that can detect chemicals in the water. By waving the siphon around, the snail is able to work out which direction it should go to find food. Nassariid snails are active carnivores feeding on a wide variety of living and dead animals (30mm).
