snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Phyllodesmium longicirrum. Many soft-coral feeding aeolid nudibranchs have evolved changes to their bodies to allow them to 'farm' colonies of algae in their tissues. This close-up photo of one ceras shows the brown patches of algae being cultivated by this aeolid. The pale branching ducts are part of the digestive system connnecting the algal gardens to the aeolid's stomach.
