snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Invertebrate Zoology -

Limax maximus

Limax maximus. The Leopard Slug is another unwelcome European immigrant to Australia, which can be found in huge numbers in some gardens, especially where pet food is left unattended. Like most land snails and slugs, Limax has evolved a lung for breathing air. In this photo the pneumostome (airhole), which rhythmically opens and closes, is fully open (16cm).
