Helix aspersa. The common garden snail is a European immigrant which often reaches pest proportions in home gardens. In its native Europe, cold winters and birds keep the numbers in check. There are about ten other introduced snails which have become serious agricultural pests in Australia, and it is everyone's responsibility to support quarantine regulations banning the introduction of any live snails.
