Qualifications
PhD, James Cook University of North Queensland.
I moved from Townsville to Sydney in 1996 to commence work at CBCR on a project studying the effects of Bitou Bush invasion on coastal sand dunes, on invertebrate biodiversity. Since then, my role has expanded to involve:
- sampling design
- organising and conducting field collecting trips
- development of quality control protocols for processing collected materials
- design and maintenance of the CBCR database
- statistical analyses of material collected for most centre projects involving an ecological component.
Research interests
My research interests are wide and varied, reflecting the range of different activities and projects I am involved with in CBCR. Broadly, I am involved with research into issues related specifically with the collection, processing and analysis of broad-scale collections of terrestrial invertebrates. These include:
- studies on techniques for estimating most efficient allocation of resources when designing a sampling program
- error detection and quality control strategies for the sorting, identification and databasing of bulk invertebrate material
- statistical analyses of project data with a focus on impacts on invertebrate communities of restoration activities or threatening processes such as weed invasion and salination
- meta-analyses of past project data sets, focussing on sampling strategies, the structure of data sets produced, and the subsequent impacts on analytical techniques
