The mineral collection has about 1290 species including seven Type specimens.

The meteorite collection has about 275 named meteorites.

About 35% of the mineral collection is from New South Wales, 22% from other Australian states, and 43% is from other parts of the world. About 5% of the mineral collection is on display.

About 30% of the rock collection consists of New South Wales specimens, 20% from other Australian states, 13% from Antarctica, and 37% from other parts of the world.
