The Blackspotted Pufferfish can be recognised by its colouration. It is grey to brown above and white to yellow below. There are irregular black spots on the body and a pale band across the snout.
This species grows to 25 cm in length.
It eats mainly live corals.
The Blackspotted Pufferfish occurs on coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific.
In Australia it is known from the offshore reefs of north-western Western Australia, around the tropical north of the country, and south to the central coast of New South Wales.
