At the August meeting of the Australian Society for Fish Biology, Australian Museum ichthyologist Jeff Leis was awarded the prestigious K. Radway Allen Medal for his outstanding contribution to ichthyology, in particular his “pioneering work on larval fish”.

The medal was presented at the annual ASFB dinner in front of an audience of his colleagues. The award was presented by Mark Lintermans.

It is worth noting that half of the six winners of the K Radway Allen Medal have been fish taxonomists employed at state museums.  The first was John Paxton, of the Australian Museum (1997).  John was followed by Gerry Allen of the Western Australian Museum (2003), and then Jeff Leis of the Australian Museum (2007).  It is also worth noting that both John Paxton and Gerry Allen have retired, and neither has been replaced.
