I started diving in 1984 and bought my first Nikonos prior to going on holiday to Lord Howe in 1986. I have been hooked on UW photography ever since and rarely dive without one. I am involved with the Solitary Islands Underwater Research Group Inc. based in Coffs Harbour and have taken part in several projects funded by Coastcare and Environment Australia.
My main interest is the fishes of the Solitary Islands Marine Park and I am helping to compile a photographic inventory of them as well as other animals in the park. We have about 120 species listed so far as well as 75 -80 nudibranchs, other molluscs, echinoderms and crustaceans.
I changed to housed cameras in about 1992 and now use Nikon 801s, 60mm lens and Ikelite strobes, my wife, who hates crawling around the bottom uses the same but with wide angle lenses. We try to dive every weekend and still wonder at the frequency of good diving weather during the week when we are working, with strong southerlies on cue at the weekend!
