Sorting a large catch from relatively shallow water at Erromango Island - working conditions were very cramped. On the left is a narrow bench (often doubled as a bed) with a pile diving regulators. Under the bench are various pieces of collecting equipment. The large wooden box below the Australian flag towel contains one of the 2 air compressors that were brought by the Smithsonian staff for filling the tanks. Behind Robert Jimmy are white scuba tanks waiting to be filled later on that night.
