The Fish Department - Fieldwork

Back at the fish laboratory at the Museum we sort the catch. Most of the specimens were immediately preserved in alcohol for later use in the Museum's new Biodiversity gallery. The remaining fishes were placed in 10% formaldehyde before being transferred into 70% alcohol. These specimens will be registered into the Museum's extensive Fish Collection. Samples of muscle and liver tissue were taken from most species and will be used in future genetic studies.
