Fishes - Australian Museum Fish Site

The Fish Department - Fieldwork

Solomon Islands, 1998

The fishes collected were photographed to record the fresh colouration. The fins were carefully pinned out and then painted with Formalin to fix them in place. After several minutes, the pins were removed and the fins remained erect. This process often continued well into the night. The image shows Randy Mooi (standing) and Brad Wright carefully pinning the fins of small fish specimens.
