Fishes - Australian Museum Fish Site

The Fish Department - Fieldwork

Larval Fish Research at Lizard Island Research Station

The most important part of this fieldwork involved observing fish larvae in the water. Light traps (pictured), placed in various sites around Lizard Island, collected larvae that were ready to settle on the reef. At night, larvae were attracted to the fluorescent light inside the traps and were able to enter through open funnels on the sides. The majority of the larvae remained in the trap to be collected the following morning.
