Outer Great Barrier Reef Fish Survey, 1993
A Whale Shark, Rhincodon typus, visits the boat. This was one of the most exciting moments of the trip. As we snorkelled around the boat, this huge fish swam with us for 15 minutes.
Needless to say, this was definitely the "fish that got away"! After the snorkellers climbed back onto the Njoy the shark returned. This image shows Mark McGrouther on the duck board at the back of the boat with the Whale Shark swimming at his feet.
