Fishes - Australian Museum Fish Site

The Fish Department - Fieldwork

Outer Great Barrier Reef Fish Survey, 1993

This is one of the more exciting finds of the trip. It is an orange hairy ghost pipefish and is only 50mm long.

The species is undescribed and represents only the second specimen ever collected, the first from northern Papua New Guinea. This specimen was collected on a vertical reef face in 30m of water.

It is currently being described by Helen Larson at the Northern Territory Museum.
