Mineralogy
The SEM has been applied in three main ways by the minerology section:
- crystal morphology imaging of crystal shapes and symmetry, to characterise crystal system groups.
- crystal intergrowth imaging to show growth sequence and growth relationships between different minerals in a multi-phase sample.
- checking diversity of mineral phases in a multi- phase sample, through recognition of the different crystal geometries.
