Becoming a Eureka Sponsor
SPONSORSHIP OF THE AUSTRALIAN MUSEUM EUREKA PRIZES
BACKGROUND
The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes, established in 1990 and now entering their 18th year, are Australia's premier and most comprehensive science awards. The Prizes raise the profile of science in the community by rewarding outstanding achievements in Australian science and science promotion/communication. "Science" in this context is inclusive of the broad range of research, innovation, leadership and other science-related activity highlighted and rewarded by individual prizes. The prizes are also the largest single national award scheme highlighting research into critical environmental and sustainability issues facing Australia.
The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are a unique cooperative partnership between the Australian and NSW governments and a range of institutions, organisations, companies and individuals. The 2006 series, consisting of a 20 prizes worth over $200,000, was supported by over 26 sponsors in partnership with the Australian Museum.
The annual Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are launched at a sponsor function hosted at the Museum in March of each year. Entries close in May, with prize finalists announced at a media event in July. The annual process culminates in a gala award dinner in Sydney in August during National Science Week. This dinner has become the largest single event in Australia celebrating and rewarding Australian science and science communication. The 2006 award dinner was attended by an audience of almost 1,000 leaders from science, government, academia, business and the media, including the federal Minister for the Environment and Heritage, the federal Minister for Education, Science and Training, the NSW Minister for Science and Medical Research and the Australian of the Year.
