Sleek Geeks In Training

Friday, August 1, 2008

Watch the winning and highly commended entries in the primary school section of the University of Sydney Sleek Geek Science Eureka Prize.

Awarded for a 3 minute video that explains a scientific concept in an entertaining way, this Eureka Prize attracted hundreds of entries from schools across the country.

Four creative students from Table Cape Primary School will travel all the way from Burnie to Sydney on 19 August to attend the Eureka Prizes Award Dinner. It's here, in front of the "Who's who" of Australian science, where they will accept their first place prize in the inaugural Sleek Geek Eureka Prize for Primary Schools.

Their stunning clay animation Eureka! shows why Mr Archimedes had such a problem taking a bath and why buoyancy can be such a troublesome thing.

Be sure to also check out the youngest ever Eureka Prizes entrant.  Five year old Aydin Neighbour from St Finbarrs Catholic Primary School in Byron Bay enthusiastic accounts how a volcano works.  Aydin was highly commended by the judges for his efforts.
