Eastern Tube-Nosed Bat

Family: Pteropodidae
Scientific name: Nyctimene robinsoni

Where they roost:
On branches of trees. They do not appear to roost together in groups. They prefer to roost in thick vegetation and when they wrap themselves in their wings they are well camouflaged.

What they eat:
The nectar and pollen of native blossoms and native and introduced fruit. They eat introduced guava fruits on trees that are very close to the ground.

Conservation threats:
Vulnerable to habitat destruction because it prefers rainforest areas and much of its habitat has already been destroyed.

Other information:
These bats make a whistling call. They have nostrils shaped like tubes but it is not clear what the tubes do. These bats often fly very close to the ground as they search for food.
