In 1999 - 2000 a pilot study, funded by the Australian Museum and public donations, was completed, and analysis of research and archival material collected to date was undertaken with the assistance of a student intern. An Aboriginal volunteer is conducting ongoing research and related research on carved emu eggs was commenced in late 2000. Field trips were undertaken to Broken Hill, Lake Cargelligo, Melbourne and Adelaide. A major article appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald, November 2000. The first major publication arising from the study is currently in press.
