Aboriginal Archaeological Collections - Bone Point

Bone Point, Botany Bay, Sydney, New South Wales

This bone point was found in a coastal shell midden site at Botany Bay. Bone points are generally made from kangaroo fibulae (leg bones). They are used for a variety of tasks such as barbs in the prongs of fishing spears, awls for manufacturing fishing nets and skin cloaks, fishing toggles, nose bones and for manufacturing other tools.
