Exhibitions as contested sites: the role of museums in contemporary society

Welcome

Exhibitions as contested sites: the role of museums in contemporary society is a three-year Australian and international research project funded by the Australian Research Council with partners the University of Sydney History Department; the Australian Museum, Sydney; and the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.

The project is investigating the role of museums with an emphasis on how institutions can deal effectively with the challenge of mounting exhibitions on controversial issues and sensitive topics.

This website contains information about and resources related to the Exhibitions as contested sites research project.

You are invited to actively participate in the project through completing an online survey; and/or through reading about the industry symposium in November 2003.
